Range of Anaerobic Digestion Systems

BIOFerm provides a complete suite of anaerobic digesters to the North American market for varying feedstock types and amounts. These turnkey systems include: COCCUS (complete-mix, “wet” digester), BIOFerm Dry Fermentation (high-solids digester), EUCOlino (small-scale digester), and EUCO (horizontal, plug-flow digester).

Different types of biogas systems are better suited for different types of organic waste. Our industry experience has taught us that it is never a “one-size-fits-all” solution; we ensure our clients receive the system that best solves their organic waste and biogas needs.

High total solids | ~8,000+ tons of waste

Our Dry Fermentation digesters process high-solids organics, such as: food waste, yard waste, and other stackable organics. Although feedstocks may vary in solids contents, the system typically operates within the 25-35% total solids (TS) range. During this batch-style digestion process (which requires no internal moving parts or pumpable waste stream), organics remain stationary inside the individual, rectangular fermentation chambers. Modular design allows the system to be scaled according feedstock amount available. Operating in the mesophilic temperature range, a minimum of 8,000 tons of organic waste per year is typically processed with this system. BIOFerm™ Dry Fermentation is ideal for municipalities, food processors, campuses, composters, etc.

Low total solids | ~7,000+ tons of waste

COCCUS® complete-mix anaerobic digester tanks utilize unique REMEX® paddle mixers to ensure homogeneous mixing. Operating in the 8–13% TS range at mesophilic temperatures, a variety of feedstocks can be processed. Possible feedstocks include: manure, biosolids, food waste, brewery waste, energy crops, and other low-solids organics. COCCUS® digester tanks are available in different sizes and can be combined; the organic waste processing range is around 7,000 tons per year and up, depending on tank size and expansions. COCCUS® applications include dairies, wastewater treatment plants, food processors, and more. COCCUS®  can also be paired with the horizontal plug-flow digester, EUCO®, for processing wastewater sewage sludge, waste from food processors, breweries, and more. EUCO® liquefies and hydrolyzes solid waste and provides the second-stage digester with well broken down material.

 Mid total solids | ~1000-6000 tons of waste  

Compact and small-scale, the EUCOlino anaerobic digester is shipped from the supplier and arrives on site as a complete, pre-assembled containerized unit. EUCOlino is ideal for operations with limited amounts of biomass or a small footprint. It is capable of processing a wide range of feedstocks, and operates between 15-20% TS. EUCOlino a great fit for: municipalities, campuses, wastewater treatment facilities, food processors, dairies, and more. This system can be scaled to process between 1,000 – 6,000 tons of organic waste per year, and also operates at mesophilic temperatures. EUCOlino is an idea fit at campuses, composters, breweries, wastewater treatment facilities, municipalities, dairies, zoos and more.

Plug-flow digester

A plug flow digester with agitation that is designed to run at the mesophillic temperature range. The steel tank has a rectangular footprint and has a horizontal paddle mixer than runs the full length of the tank. The mixer is powered by planetary drive units at both ends. The tank is heated through the horizontal mixer shaft. Solid material is loaded into the tank via the PASCO® feeder system. Liquid feedstock is pumped from a CALIX reception pit.

     EUCO® Titan

            EUCO® is often combined with COCCUS® tanks. In this plant design,                 EUCO® primarily liquefies the feedstock through hydrolysis and serves               as first stage in the digestion process. Even in this design, 50% of the                 gas production occur in the EUCO®.
