Gas Collection

Biogas generated by a BIOFerm™ plant is collected by our unique gas storage system where it is processed and prepared for utilization. The produced biogas is extracted from each chamber through an explosion- and leak-proof ventilation system. It is then routed into the gas bag storage unit located on top of the fermentation chambers. Because the gas from many chambers is being stored in a single storage bag, the biogas from each individual chamber is mixed to produce one collective source of biogas to be utilized by the energy production applications. In doing this, gas quality and level of production is raised because some chambers are always operational while others must be opened for material exchanges and maintenance, halting their biogas production.

Short-term biogas storage bag The gas storage unit is designed with enough capacity to be able to hold the produced biogas even if it is not being immediately consumed to generate energy. Under normal operation, the gas storage units are loaded only to 30 – 40% full in order to guarantee enough storage capacity is available for these times. When  normal biogas utilization resumes, the held gas can then be processed and utilized.  The gas bag is also is monitored to ensure that it maintains a safe internal pressure.
