White House Hopes to Make “Clean Energy Standard” a Reality

- January 31st, 2011

Last week, President Obama’s State of the Union address laid out his plan for 80% of US power to come from clean sources by 2035, defining clean sources as renewable energy, natural gas, carbon sequestering coal, and nuclear power.  The White House is working with both Democrats and Republicans to make this legislation a reality, while trying to separate it from the fate of last year’s cap-and-trade bill that died in the Senate.  Obama presented this plan as a way to create jobs and make the US a leader in green energy markets, and avoided terms such as greenhouse gases or global warming.  A White House fact sheet stated that “by providing a clear signal towards a clean energy future, the president’s proposal will move that capital off of the sidelines and into the economy, mobilizing tens of billions of dollars each year in new investment and creating jobs across the country.”  To read the full article from The Hill E2 Wire, click here.
