Village in Germany Produces Three Times Their Required Energy

- August 19th, 2011

This month’s issue of BioCycle magazine has a great story by Christie Allen on Wildpoldsried, a village in Germany that is now producing 321% more energy then it requires, and is generating close to USD$6M in revenue!  The story goes into details about how the modest agricultural community accomplished this significant feat through its goals of building new industry, keeping it local, and bringing in new revenues.  Between the first biogas plant being installed in 1997, solar panels on close to 200 households, and energy efficiency efforts, Wildpoldsried is a true model of community sustainability.  Planned next steps include integration of renewable energy and electric vehicles and a facility to promote “Eco-Energy Tourism.”  To read the full story, please follow this link.
