Details on University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh’s plan to construct a BIOFerm biogas plant were revealed in the campus publication “UW Oshkosh Today”. The article describes the core reasoning why the University is taking on the project: one, the incorporation of positive sustainability practices at the University, which is very important to the University community and leaders, two, the generation of renewable, clean and locally produced energy, and three, the creation of an anaerobic digestion and renewable energy infrastructure “living lab”, as explained by Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services Tom Sonnleitner. As the University’s Director of Sustainability Mike Lizotte describes, a BIOFerm anaerobic digestion plant will allow the University to “use a large, untapped and local source of renewable energy” – organic waste materials. The article also details renewable energy generation parameters, input requirements and sources, and funding support for the project. To read the full article, click here.
