Renewable Energy Parallels to Internet Rebirth

Renewable Energy Parallels to Internet Rebirth

- September 20th, 2010

An article in Renewable Energy World draws comparisons between the clean energy sector’s ups and downs and the rise and fall of the internet.  While each situation has its unique challenges and triumphs, there are some similarities in each industry’s “boom, bust, and rebirth.”  The author points out that this so called rebirth (after the dramatic downturn caused by the economic recession) is not being driven by government policy or consumers, but primarily by corporate America.  Many large corporations such as Wal-Mart, Shell Oil, and Boeing are establishing business models that incorporate green practices including zero waste initiatives and renewable energy goals; perhaps not just to “be green”, but also to save some green.  The story raises some interesting points and expresses hope that in another decade, clean energy will be as much an integral and commonly accepted part of our lives as the internet is now.
