The Wisconsin State Journal recently reported on the progress of the City of Madison’s 400 household organics collection pilot program. So far 21.5 tons of organic material has been collected and sent to a compost facility near Portage. If successful, the program will be expanded and the eventual goal is to set up an anaerobic digester in Dane County to generate electricity or run CNG vehicles. The feedback seems mostly positive so far, with one participant Lee Lohr noting “I’ve been remarkably surprised how easy it is”.
