French Farmers Backing Biogas

- January 21st, 2011

According to an article from Reuters, more French farmers are looking to add renewable energy generation on their property to add a reliable source of income in the midst of volatile commodity prices.  While they are considering solar and wind power, they are also taking a closer look at biogas since it integrates well with their existing agriculture practices.  Farmers can utilize digestate from biogas generating units as a soil amendment, and produce biogas to be used for electricity and heat.  Currently France only has about 30 farm biogas installations, which is a drop in the bucket compared to the 5000 in Germany; however, with a little help from policy and more farmers willing to take on these projects, they could be catching up quickly.  To see the original article, click here.
