The American Biogas Council, of which BIOFerm is a founding member, is circulating a petition to seek government support on extending the deadling for Section 1603, a grant program which helps to fund renewable energy projects. The 1603 Treasury Program allows owners of property, like biogas producing digesters, that would otherwise qualify for Internal Revenue Code Section 45 or 48 to receive a cash grant from the U.S. Treasury in lieu of the credit and in the amount of a 30% investment tax credit.
The deadline for qualifying projects to apply is set for December 31, 2011. The aim of this petition is to extend that deadline to allow more projects to benefit from this important opportunity and produce more homegrown renewable energy in this country.
