American Biogas Council Mentioned in Popular Science

- June 15th, 2011

A special issue on future energy supply in Popular Science magazine takes a look at biogas.  The main feature of the story is small scale biogas systems in Nairobi.  However, the last couple of pages focus on the opportunity for widespread adoption of biogas in the US.  The Environmental Protection Agency has estimated that close to 8000 dairy farms in the US are capable of producing significant amounts of biogas, and currently less than 200 are doing so.  The American Biogas Council (of which BIOFerm is a founding member) cites an estimate that “if we used industrial sources of organic waste as well, biogas could account for between 10 and 15 percent of our natural gas supply by 2030.”  To read the Popular Science article, please follow this link.
