The compact, plug-and-play EUCOlino system at Allen Farms (dubbed Titan 55) is BIOFerm™ Energy Systems’ smallest anaerobic digester and is specifically designed for operations with a limited organic waste stream; this makes it ideal for smaller dairies.
Construction began in 2012 and its completion marks a pioneer effort to bring technology previously available only to large facilities to the family-sized farm.
The Allen Farm’s biodigester is designed to process up to 2,000 tons of manure from the farm’s 135 dairy cows to create renewable biogas. It has an electric capacity of 64 kW and a thermal capacity of 101 kW. The average annual electricity production is 512,000 kWh; the estimated energy produced is equivalent to providing electricity to 50 US homes a year, or heating 61 homes.
“I’m hoping other farmers invest in this technology to become completely self-sufficient when it comes to meeting their heating and electrical needs. There really is an endless list of advantages; I’m taking the manure I already have, making energy, and the methane greenhouse gas isn’t being released into the atmosphere,” says Dave Allen, owner of Allen Farms and the Titan 55 EUCOlino.
Part of EUCOlino’s appeal is its small, more manageable size. It was designed for operations with limited footprints or waste streams such as: campuses, small dairies, breweries, composters, municipalities, and more.
